Greece Island: “The Blind Island”

The Greece island of Zakynthos has been named the "the blind island" by the Greek press as almost 700 residents received disability pensions meant for blind people despite of being sighted. Most of the people who received the pension claimed that they were blind at birth, although the Greece Island has not had any history of disease causing blindness.
The pension being given to the people of Greece Island claiming to blind costs 6.4 million euro annually to the Greek state. The ministry has announced that all residents of Greece Island claiming disability payments should mandatorily undergo a health check up at a state hospital before they receive their pension. Due to this negligence of Greek state, some parts of the Greek press named Greece Island as the "blind island".
