Greece finally saw the suspension of the strike by taxi owners after a month. This strike has slowed down and included blockades of Greece's airports. This decision was taken by the taxi owners' federation general assembly in a meeting that took more than three hours.
It was decided to end the taxi strike in Greece till 5th of September i.e. after the Parliament reopened on 22nd of August, and on the eve of the annual Thessaloniki International Fair. The taxis can be seen again almost immediately in the streets of Greece. It can be seen that the decision to suspend the taxi strike in Greece was mainly because the owners were assured by regional authority chiefs that they would not issue any new taxi licenses until the draft bill liberalizing the sector had been passed.
The head of the nationwide federation of taxi owners Thymios Lymberopoulos said that taxi owners in Greece will be distributing leaflets to the public outlining their positions until 5th September.
